4.03 ROnDB
4.03.1 Raul Roads. (Cont'd.)
The steepest portion of the Orchard Valley West Mine haul road is designed
to have a grade of approximately 10 percent.
The overall grade of the Orchard Valley R-0-M coal stockpile haul road is
less than l0 percent.
(3) (a) (ii)
No haul roads have a maximum pitch grade in excess of 15 percent.
(3) (a) (iii)
No haul roads have more than 300 feet of pitch grade exceeding l0 percent
within any consecutive 1000 feet. No haul roads have any pitch grade
steeper than 15%.
(3) (b)
The Orchard Valley Mine haul road has a horizontal alignment consistent
with existing topography and accepted engineering practice (refer to Map
No.'s 8-1, 8A-9A, 8A-9B, and 8A-9C). Coordination between horizontal and
vertical alignment ensures the haul road will not cause envirorm~ertal
damage.
The Orchard Valley West Mine haul road has a horizontal alignment
• consistent with the Roatcap access road, existing topography, and accepted
engineering practice. Coordination between horizontal and vertical
alignment ensures the road will not cause environmental damage (refer to
sheet 7 of the Orchard Valley West Portals designs, Volume 6).
The Orchard Valley R-0-M coal stockpile haul road has a horizontal
alignment consistent with the existing roadway accessing the area.
Utilizing the existing roadway ensures further environmental damage will
not occur.
(3) (c) (i)
Information for the Orchard Valley Mine haul road is included in the
Stability Analyses Appendix, Volume 6, prepared for GwI by geotechnical
and soils consultants under the direction of Merrick & Co., Denver, ~.
Geotechnical analyses for the Orchard Valley west Mine haul road shows the
minimum safety factor of 1.5. Appropriate designs have been completed by
Golder Associates of Golden, QU. See Volume 6.
Geotechnical analyses of the Orchard Valley R-O-M coal stockpile haul road
is presented in Volume 6 (refer to Supplemental Geotechnical Fhgineering
Study, Law Grade Coal Haul Road, Lambert and Associates). No cut slopes
steeper than 1.5h:1v were utilized in the R-0-M coal stockpile haul road
construction.
(3) (c) (ii)
The Orchard Valley Mine haul road is an existing structure.
