4.03 RL~DiB
4.03.1 Haul Roads. (Cont'd.)
• (2) (a)
The Orchard Valley Mine haul road is located on the most stable available
slopes to minimize erosion using accepted engineerirg practice. See Map
No.'s 8A-9A, SA-9B, and SA-9C.
The Orchard Valley West Mine haul road is located on the approximate
alignment of the existing Roatcap a~ road. It is located on the most
stable available slopes to minimize erosion. See sheet 7 of the Orchard
Valley West Portals designs in Volume 6.
The Orchard Valley R-0-M coal stockpile haul road was constructed
primarily on fill material deposited in the Steven's Gulch drainage on
OOVCC owned property. The road has been stabilized through revegetation
efforts to minimize erosion.
(2) (b)
No parts of the Orchard Valley and Orchard Valley West Mine haul roads are
located in the channel of an ephemeral stream draining more than one
square mile, or the channels of intermittent or perennial streams.
A portion of the Orchard Valley R-0-M coal stockpile haul road is located
within the channel of Steven's Gulch, an ephemeral stream draining
approximately 3 1/2 square miles at the point of crossirg. This portion
• of haul road was constructed prior to the enactrnent of SMCRA and the
Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining
detailing the associated specific design criteria for haul roads.
(2) (c)
No fords were used in the construction of haul roads. All drainage
structures for haul roads are culverts.
(2) (d)
All haul roads are located to minimize downstream sedimentation and
flooding. All road cuts and fills required for the construction of haul
roads are revegetated as described in Section 2.05.4 Reclamation Plan
General Requirements. All haul road drainage culverts are designed to
carry at a minimum the l0-year, 24-hour storm runoff. These features are
designed, constructed, and maintained to minimize downstream sedimentation
and flooding.
(2) (e)
No diversions of stream channels were r~ured for construction of the
haul roads.
(3) (a) (i)
• The overall grade of the Orchard Valley Mine haul road is approximately 7
percent.
TR 92-18 Revised 07/08/94
4
