44,03 ROADS
4.03.2 Access Roads.
(1) (a) CWI has constructed a road accessing mine facilities
(herein after referred to as mine facilities access
road). Refer to Maps 8-1, SA-10, and 8A-11.
CWI has also constructed two roads accessing the waste
storage area. One was constructed in 1978 and accessed
the old waste storage area (herein after referred to as
old waste storage access road). In 1984, another road
was constructed to access the west ridge waste storage
area (herein after referred to as waste storage north
access road). Refer to Maps SA-12 and 6A-2E.
An additional road was constructed in 1978 to access
sedimentation ponds lk3 and X64 (herein after referred to
as Ponds 4k3 and 9?4 access road). Refer [o Maps 8A-12.
Upon construction of the rock slope portals and en-
tries, the portal level access road would be cut ap-
proximately four feet for a length of approximately 160
feet near the proposed intake portal and cut approxi-
mately five feet for a length of approximately 140 feet
near the proposed return portal, allowing room for
• traffic at Che new portals. Refer to the Golder Asso-
ciates designs in the Mine Facilities Appendix in Vol-
ume 8A for further information regarding the modifica-
tion of the portal level access road.
All roads have been designed, constructed, and main-
tained to control erosion and siltation, pollution of
water, and darn age to public and private property. Spe-
cific requirements will be addressed within [his Sec-
tion 4.03.2.
(b) The access roads do not cause damage to Eish, wildlife
or related environmental values. The roads minimize
contributions of suspended solids to stream flow and
runoff outside the permit area. Specific requirements
will be addressed within this Section 4.03.2.
(c) The access roads were designed using accepted engineer-
ing practices, considering traffic, weight, and speed
of vehicles.
(d) The access roads have been designed and constructed in
accordance with 4.03.2 unless so noted. The roads are
environmentally sound and structurally stable.
• Revised 08/01/84
Revised 07/13/87
Revised 10/01/87
14
