C-1982-057 TR-73
Engineering-Geotech PAR
24-Mar-2011
d. The profile view shows only the proposed road surface. Please add an additional line
depicting the existing ground surface.
e. On the profile view, please incorporate the locations of cross sections B, C, and D; and
illustrate the proposed underdrains and culverts at their locations and elevations.
f. In the Typical Rock Underdrain section, the geotextile brand name is misspelled.
Please revise "Marifi" to read "Mirafi".
g. In the current version of the permit, Roads J and K are detailed on separate maps. Once
Road J/K has been reconstructed with TR-73, the as-built maps in the pen will need
to be updated to show the final configuration(s) of the road.
a. A comparison of the existing topography (Exh. 20-D.1) with the Post Mine topography
(Exh. 20-D.2) reveals that a large embankment is proposed for construction to the NNW
of the realigned PM-2 channel. A graphic depiction of this embankment is provided on
the attached map, a rough compilation of 20 -D.1 contours and features onto the 20-D.2
map. This embankment ranges in height from 10 to 25 feet, and is not discussed in the
TR-73 application. No source of fill material is identified. Please review the post mine
contours proposed for this location, and revise or clarify as necessary.
b. The post mine topography described in paragraph a, above, would also appear to require
the construction of an additional channel, identified in green on the attached map
compilation. This drainage has not been addressed in the application, and the Division
observes that directing surface flow toward the Pond 016 slide area would be counter-
productive. Please review the surface drainage patterns for this area and modify as
necessary.
Exhibit 20-D.2 Sheet 2 Pond 016 Area Remediation Plan and Post Mine Cross Sections
Four cross sections (A, B, C and D) are provided at horizontal and vertical scales of 1"=20'. The
cross section locations are depicted in Plan view on Exhibit 20-D.2 Sheet 1.
S. DRMS comments on Cross Sections
a. On Section A-A', please identify the location where Section B-B' intersects this section
(— Sta. 2+30) and the locations of the proposed Underdrains.
b. On Section B-13', please identify the location where Section A-A' intersects this section
(—Sta. 2+08).
c. A comparison of Section B-B' with the plan view on Sheet I reveals that the centerline
of Road J/K is located at —Sta. 2+30 on this section. The Proposed Surface on this
section shows a continuous surface 60' in length at >8% slope (Sta. 2+20 to 2+80). The
location of Road J/K is not identified on this slope. Please modify this section to
accurately depict the proposed configuration (template) of Road J/K, including
elevation above the graded surface, roadside ditches, etc.
