RESULTS
Numerical data are found in Tables 1 through 9 of Appendix 1. Sample data from the 2010
revegetation monitoring studies at the Yoast Mine are presented in Tables 1 through 5. Sampling
data are summarized in Table 6. Data on species density by lifeform are tabulated for the
sampled areas in Table 7. Data on relative cover by lifeform are compiled in Table 8. Statistical
adequacy of sampling is reviewed in Table 9. The list of plant species observed during these
studies (reclaimed and reference areas) is included as Table 10 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes used
in the reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix 3. Photographs of representative
locations within the reclaimed areas sampled in 2010, as well as photographs of the Aspen,
Mountain Brush, Sage brush/Sn owberry, and Steep Mountain Brush Reference areas, are
included in Appendix 4. Calculations related to evaluation of data under permit-prescribed tests
of species diversity are set forth in Appendix 5. Graphs of vegetation and climate data are
presented in Figures 1 through 9 of this report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point-
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute all-hit data only. Percentages are
rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
Phase 11 Bond Release Area
(Photographs 1 through 6)
COVER
(Table 1)
Introduced perennial forbs, introduced annual and biennial forbs, and native perennial cool
season grasses were the predominant lifeforms observed in the Phase II Bond Release Area,
contributing 17.5, 12.0 and 12.6 percent of the all-hit vegetation cover respectively. Introduced
perennial cool season grasses, native annual and biennial forbs, native perennial forbs,
introduced annual grasses, native shrubs, and bryophytes contributed 4.5, 3.1, 4.6, 2.6, 1.0 and
0.5 percent cover respectively. The introduced perennial forb cover was composed mostly of
alfalfa (Medicago sativa). Introduced annual and biennial forbs cover consisted mostly of two lobe
speedwell (Pocilla biloba), prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola), and Jim Hill mustard (Sisimbrium
altissimum). Native perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly composed of slender
wheatgrass (Elymus trachycaulus), western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithit), Canada bluegrass
