Also observed in the area were the <br />noxious weeds hound`s tongue (Cynoglossum ofcina/e), Canada thistle (Breea arvensis), musk <br />thistle (Carduus nutans ssp. macrolepis), and bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare). <br />Total average vegetation cover for all hits was 58.4 percent. For allowable herbaceous <br />vegetation, total average cover for all hits was 43.2 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare <br />soil and rock averaged 0.31, 30.5, 12.8 and 1.0 percent respectively. Average species density <br />was 27.1 species per 100 sq. m. <br />Aspen Reference Area <br />(Photographs 7 through 10) <br />COVER <br />(Table 2) <br />Native perennial forbs, native trees and native shrubs were the predominant lifeforms observed in <br />the Aspen Reference Area, contributing 75.7, 34.8 and 36.2 percent of the total all-hit vegetation <br />cover respectively. Native trees consisted entirely of aspen (Populus tremuloides). Native <br />perennial forbs consisted mainly of western aniseroot (Osmorhiza occidentalis) and cow parsnip <br />(Heracleum sphondylium ssp. montanum). Native shrubs was predominantly composed of choke <br />cherry (Padus virginiana ssp. melanocarpa), mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius), <br />and Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia). Also observed in the area were the noxious <br />weeds hound`s tongue, Canada thistle and bull thistle. <br />Total average vegetation cover for all hits was 159.1 percent. For herbaceous vegetation, total <br />average cover for all hits was 87.3 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock <br />averaged 0.4, 6.8, 2.4 and 0.0 percent respectively.
