SMALL MAI~4~1L STUDIES • <br />Simll maanial species oo~OSition, ab~utdarx:e, and habitat association were <br />determined by live trap censuring conducted during late September, 1979. <br />Three 100 m transacts (Wyraning Dep~rtmPnt of Envi.roimiental Quality, 1979) <br />were placed in representative areas of each of the following vegetation <br />types on the study area: <br />1. Mixed brush <br />2. Upland sagebYVSh <br />3. Aspen <br />An additional transact was established in a riparian area on the southeast <br />edge of the study area (Map 1, Appendix A). <br />Two RhhA_**~*+ live traps were placed at each lOm interval along each transact. • <br />Traps were baited with a peanut butter, cracked Dorn, rolled oats, bacon <br />fat mixture and checked for four consecutive nights. All traps were provided <br />with dacron-fiber batting to avoid animal loss due to hypothermia. All <br />individuals captured wez2 toe-clipped and recorded according to species, <br />sex, age (juvenile or adult), repLOduct_ive status (active or inactive), and <br />location and then released. <br />AVIFPaLt~ STCIDIES <br />Four different ar~onents of the avifauna were studied: <br />1.
