• Waterfowl, raptors, upland_gamebirds and passerine birds occur on the <br />Seneca II site, thus four different surveys were necessary to determine the <br />presence, aburuti-uzoe and production of avifauna at the project site. <br />1. Strip transact censuses for passerine birds and upland game birds. <br />2. (~ovrrl surveys to determine the presence and status of raptor nests. <br />3. Surveys of wet areas to determine presence and abundance of waterfowl <br />arxi shorebirds. <br />4. Waterfowl and uplarxi game burl brood production surveys. <br />In addition to the above-listed specific census tecYmiques, opportunistic <br />sightings of raptorial birds, game birds, and waterfowl were recorded by <br />species, habitat type, and location on wildlife observation forms during all <br />field activities. Opportunistic surveys were ~i to provide a <br />• conglete bird species list for the site. <br />Passerine Birds. Passerine birds were censused along transact lines placed <br />within each of the following vegetation types on the project site: <br />1. Mixed brush <br />2. Upland sagebrush <br />3. Gan~bel oak <br />4. Aspen <br />5. Riparian <br />Transacts were 1 lan in length and were oonq~letely contained within the <br />vegetation type being sampled (Map 1, Appendix A). For the breeding bird <br />• census, a c~ ~lified observer paced the 1 km transacts and stopped every <br />-5- <br />
