• By dividing the topsoil available by the area requiring topsoil replacement, we arrive at the future
topsoil balance thickness of approximately 2.3 feet for the remaining disturbance area. This
generalized topsoil balance does not account for any area variations or for permanent facilities not
requiring topsoil; it is strictly an area-wide average.
•
During 2007, topsoil thickness sampling was conducted over the topsoiled area on a 500 ft. grid. The
overall topsoil replacement depth for the areas reclaimed to date is 21.4 inches. The 21.4 inches is
right in line with the original projections of 21.6 inches.
REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
Seeding. 25.5 additional acres were seeded for the first time in 2010. Various drainage channels
were interseeded with interseed mix to increase stability. Mix #3 (Mesic Drainage and Sub-irrigated
Sites) was used in the drainage channels. Table 10.2 lists the approved seed mix for upland sites and
ephemeral drainages, Table 10.3 lists the approved seed mix for mesic drainages, Table 10.4 lists the
approved seed mix for the alkaline lowlands, Table 10.5 lists the approved seed mix for interseeding.
An actual seed tag from the seed bags used is contained in the attachment 2010 Seed Tags.
Shrub Plots. 2.4 acres of additional shrub plots were established in 2010.
Species Number Planting Site Fenced Non-fenced
Po ulas an gust 400 Pond 12 400
Po ulas an gust 400 Riparian Annan 400
Po ulas an gust 200 Riparian Annan 200
Prunus virgin 200 Pond 12 200
Prunus virgin 320 Riparian 320
Ribes aureum 400 Pond 12 400
Ribes aureum 600 Riparian Annan 350 250
Salix exi ua 900 Pond 12 900
Salix exi ua 1100 Riparian Annan 700 400
Amelan alnifolia 400 Pond 12 400
Amelan alnifolica 286 Riparian Annan 200 86
Acer ne undo 570 Pond 12 570
Acer ne undo 910 Ri pa an Annan 510 400
Totals 6686 2480 4206
• Monitoring
ESCO Associates, Inc conducted revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas during
the summer of 2010.
