areas of hounds tongue and whitetop. Control areas were sprayed in August and September. A spot
• spray gun was used to concentrate control activities on target areas, reducing potential impacts to
adjacent desirable vegetation. The herbicide mix, based on recommendations from the Colorado State
Extension Service, was mixed and applied by a certified commercial applicator. The weed control
areas will continue to be monitored in 2010 for effectiveness and necessary retreatment. See attached
2010 Weed Control (daily) Log and the 2010 Weed Spray Location map for a detailed description and
location of the 2010 herbicide application.
• Grazing
Sheep (455 yearling ewes) were moved on to the Yoast Reclaim for 44 days between August 11t and
September 141h. This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 136.5 AUMs for 2010.
Assumptions:
Five (5) sheep = 1.0 AUM
One (1) AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
45 days (x) 455/5 animal units = 4095 animal days (/) 30 days = 136.5 animal months (x) 1.0 =
136.5 AUMs
1,800 lbs/acre (x) 798 acres = 1,436,400 lbs of forage available
810 lbs (x) 136.5 AUMs = 110,565 lbs of forage required
Therefore;
• 110,565(/) 1436,400 (x) 100 = 8.0 % utilization of the entire Yoast Reclaim.
SEDIMENTATION POND SURVEYS
SCC is required by Permit C-82-057 to monitor sedimentation ponds for sediment storage capacities.
In accordance with Rule 4.05.6(11)(c), SCC visually inspects each pond a minimum of quarterly each
year. During these inspections, any drastic change in sedimentation storage or sudden increase in a
sediment delta at the inlet to the pond could be detected which would require mitigation.
Based on the 2010 survey, all sediment ponds have sufficient sediment storage. Additionally, all
ponds have been discharging in compliance with the approved NPDES permit effluent limitations.
Yearly sediment delivery estimates to the ponds are considerably less than originally calculated, since
significant portions of these watersheds have now been revegetated.
The results of the annual survey are shown on Table 10.6, Sediment Pond Capacities.
STOCK TANKS
No stock tanks were constructed in 2010.
WILDLIFE MONITORING
Seneca Coal Company contracted ICF International (formerly Jones and Stokes) to conduct wildlife
monitoring at the Seneca Yoast mine. The work included:
• 1. Monitoring known Sharp-tailed and Sage grouse leks and checking for new ones (April 26-28,
2010)
