EXHIBIT G
The operation of the gravel pits by Applicant is not
expected to affect directly surface or ground water systems
in the affected area or on Applicant 's lands as a whole . The
aquifer underlying the Applicant's lands contains very little
naturally occurring ground water and is perched above the
alluvium of the South Platte River . Because of the nature
of the underlying shale on Applicant 's lands , he has pro-
posed a plan for underground storage of water which is
presently before the Water Court in Greeley for adjudication
in Case Nos . W-6098 and W-7737-74 .
The basis of Applicant' s water plan is receipt of water
diverted from the South Platte River through the Riverside
Canal which is placed in storage underground by virtue of
percolation from reservoir No. 1 or from the gravel pits .
Of the three reservoirs located on Applicant 's lands
reservoir No . 1 is the largest , covering 23 . 5 acres at
normal water elevation with a capacity of 166 acre feet .
Reservoir No . 2 covers 5 . 6 acres at normal water elevation
and has a capacity of 19 acre feet, and reservoir No . 3
• covers 3 .3 acres at normal water elevation with a capacity
of 10 acre feet .
The only water course on Applicant 's lands is Antelope
Draw which is shown on Exhibit C. It is an intermittent
stream which has flow in the draw, according to area residents ,
only once in every five to eight years and that is from severe
rainstorms . There are no springs or other naturally occurring
bodies of water on Applicant' s lands nor are there stock watering
ponds at the present time . Land adjacent to the mining operations
is used for irrigated agriculture , primarily hay fields and corn.
Water is not used in the mining operation on Applicant 's
lands since it is a dry operation. Maintenance of water in the
gravel pits will be in accordance with the water rights decree
rather than mining operations , and the decree requested is for
agricultural rather than any other use . It is not anticipated
that there will be any pollution from surface water since there
is no surface flow regularly occurring on Applicant ' s lands .
Further there is no substantial runoff from Applicant ' s lands ,
and water used in Applicant 's farming operations will in fact
