iii. State the grass, forb, shrub and tree species to be planted and the
applicable quantities. Specify the quantity of each grass species and forb
species as pounds of pure live seed per acre.
The seeding recommended by NRCS are Switchgrass (2 pounds pure live seed per
acre), Prairie Sandreed (3.5 pounds pure live seed per acre), Sand Bluestein (8
pounds pure live seed per acre), Western Wheatgrass (8 pounds pure live seed per
acre), and Purple Prairieclover (3 pounds pure live seed per acre).
iv. Specify the application method for grass and forb seeding. If the seed is
to be broadcast, the application rate shall be twice the rate required for seed
drilling. If the seedbed has not been adequately roughened prior to seeding,
the seed shall be raked or harrowed after broadcast application.
Seeding will be occurring in the established cover crop. NRCS has recommended
that the seeding be done with a grass drill. If a decision is made to broadcast, the
Operator will double the rate of seeding.
v. If mulch is needed, specify the kind to be used, the crimping method, and
rate of application.
Mulch should not be required with the use of a cover crop.
13. The Reclamation Plan Map shows the disturbance in the southeast corner of the
pit. Please clarify if the Operator will reclaim the pre-existing disturbance. The
Operator should note that if any new disturbance is created in this area, then the
Operator will be responsible for reclaiming the area.
With the intent of the County to push the site west of the pre-existing disturbance, they do
not plan to reclaim that area. There will be a trail from Co. Rd. XX to the southeast
corner of the pit and a trail from the northeast corner of the pit to Co. Rd. XX. Those
trails will be part of the reclamation process and be seeded.
14. The Final Contour Plan shows the east pit wall will be graded to 311:1V from
the edge of County Road XX. Will the Operator construct any stormwater controls
on the east pit wall? If not, please describe how stormwater runoff will be
prevented from entering pit from County Road XX.
With the 175 foot setback from County Road AY, no major stormwater controls are
contemplated.
4
