l
332 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
6.2.18 Site 5MF1653
Site Tyne Lithic scatter
Legal Location Section 16, T4N, R93W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 27 x 11 in
Site Description Site 5MF1653 lies within the northeast portion of the current Colowyo Collom
Mine project. It was recorded in 1983 by TRC Mariah for the Danforth Hills/Utah International
project. However, it could not be relocated because the artifacts at the site were collected during the
initial inventory. The Colorado OAHP database listed the site as not eligible -field evaluation. As
recorded, the site consisted of a small lithic scatter located on top of an interfluvial ridge at an
elevation of 6,580 ft (2,006 m). Two shovel tests revealed a very fine tan sandy loam about 10 cm
deep overlying well - compacted yellow -brown sandy clay with fragments of weathered sandstone.
Some quartzite lag cobbles were noted on the surface. Vegetation consisted of sagebrush with mixed
grasses, prickly pear cactus, and lupine. The site lies 0.25 mi (0.40 km) west of and above the West
Fork of Jubb Creek, and the general area is defined by deeply incised drainages among broad
northeast - trending interfluvial ridges overlooking Axial Basin to the north. The lithic scatter
consisted of nine flakes, and all were collected during the initial inventory.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF1653 was originally
recommended as not eligible for the NRHP, and the Colorado OAHP database listed the site as not
eligible per field evaluation. The site was recommended as not eligible for the NRHP based on the
lack of depositional potential and the artifacts recovered. The current inventory evaluation concurs
that the site is not eligible for the NRHP. It is no longer extant, having been collected at the time
of recording.
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
