Class IIIInventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 333
The site lies within the revised project boundary, but because the site no longer exists and is
recommended as not eligible for the NRHP, there will be no effect from the proposed project.
Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.2.19 Site 5MF1654
Site Tyne Lithic scatter
Legal Locatio Section 25, T4N R94W
Landowner State of Colorado
Site Dimensions 85 x 55 m
Site Descripti Site 5MF1654 lies within north - central portion of the current Colowyo Collom
Mine project. It was recorded in 1983 by TRC Mariah for the Danforth Hills/ Utah International
project. The site consisted of a sparse lithic scatter located along the eastern crest and flank of a low
C
interfluvial ridge just west of and above an ephemeral tributary of Little Collom Gulch at an
elevation of 7,140 ft (2,176 m) (Figure 6.205). Soils were described as tan fine sandy loam with tan
sandstone outcrops within the site boundary along the ridge top. Deposition on the ridge appeared
to be fairly shallow (10 -30 cm). Vegetation on -site was described as sagebrush and mixed grasses,
with Gambel oak nearby southwest of the site. Artifacts consisted of one flake tool, eight flakes
(three of which were found around ant piles), and one chunk of unmodified gray chert. The wide
dispersion of artifacts was attributed to slope wash activity. Impacts included erosion and livestock
grazing. All the recorded artifacts were collected at the time of the original inventory.
Five additional bifacial thinning flakes were discovered during the current inventory. Material types
include three semitranslucent chert flakes, one quartzite flake, and one red chert flake. These
artifacts were not collected.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF1654 was originally
recommended as not eligible due to the lack of potential for subsurface deposits, and the Colorado
•
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
