Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collorn Mine Project 331
Slight grinding was noted on the edges, and it measures 4.0 x 3.6 x 0.6 cm. Biface 2 is the distal and
lateral portion of a transversely broken biface fragment made from brown Green River formation
chert. The lateral portion exhibits some retouch, and overall it measures 6.8 x 3.3 x 0.7 cm. Biface 3
is the medial portion of a final biface made of tan quartzite that is 3.7 x 2.7 x 0.7 cm. Biface 4 is the
medial and distal portion of a final biface made of green quartzite. The distal portion exhibits impact
fractures, and overall the biface fragment measures 3.3 x 2.3 x 0.7 cm. Utilized Flake 1 is a brown
chert flake that has been unifacially flaked along one lateral margin. The tool measures 2.9 x 1.7 x
0.6 cm. Utilized Flake 2 is a primary flake made from white chert with a series of pressure flakes
removed down one lateral margin. The flake measures 3.2 x 1.9 x 0.5 cm. Scraper 1 is an
endscraper made from a primary translucent chalcedony flake measuring 2.0 x 3.5 x 1.0 cm.
Scraper 2 is a sidescraper made from a primary flake of Barrel Springs Fossiliferous chert that
measures 5.4 x 3.8 x 1.0 cm. The lateral scraping edge exhibits heavy usewear. The debitage
assemblage is predominately made up of tertiary flakes (59), and the dominant raw material type is
opaque white chert (55).
NRHP )rligibrlrty Recommendation + ' and Project Effect Site 5MF1652 was recommended in
1983 as potentially eligible for nomination to the NRHP, but more data was needed due to the
presence of possible buried cultural material. The Colorado OAHP officially concurred with this
evaluation. During the 2005 revisit of the site, an additional feature was discovered eroding out of
the road cut in the southeastern portion of the site, further indicating the presence of buried cultural
material. It is recommended that the site be tested in order to assess the extent and integrity of any
possible buried cultural material. The site remains unevaluated under Criterion D pending
subsurface testing.
The site currently lies about 800 ft (244 m) outside of the revised project boundary along
Highway 51 and most likely will not be affected by the undertaking. In the future, if the site falls
within an expanded project boundary and is proposed for disturbance, the site should be avoided
pending a formal testing program to determine its NRHP eligibility status. Following these
stipulations, cultural resource clearance is recommended.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
