370 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
serviceberry, and grasses, with stands of conifers on the slopes across the Wilson Creek valley. The
site measured 137 x 72 R and consisted of a trash pile (Feature 1), a possible wooden trough
(Feature 2), and two piles of dimensional lumber lying on the west side of the small drainage. It was
suggested that the lumber rcpresented two former buildings (Features 3 and 4) that may have been
bulldozed into piles. There were several abandoned pieces of heavy equipment and some industrial
artifacts and debris, but there were no domestic artifacts.
The current investigation found that the site contained the same features and artifacts as those
recorded in 1995 and to be in the same physical condition (Figure 6.225). A review of the MTP and
Historical Indices for T3N, R94W, and BLM website indicates that the site lies within a 320 -acre
parcel patented by Andrew M. and Mahala Jane Thornberry. They received a Homestead Entry
Patent (HE No. 873632) on July 24, 1922. The patent was entered/filed (016400) at the General
Land Office in Glenwood Springs and was not cancelled or relinquished (BLM n.d.). This would
date the initial occupation within the early Depression Em.
Figure 6.225 Overview of Site 5MF4007 with Truck Body, Looking Northeast (Taken by Darryl
• Newton, 8124/05).
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
