Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 371
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF4007 was recommended as not
eligible for the NRHP during the 1995 field evaluation and assessment, and the Colorado OAHP
officially accepted that recommendation. The current inventory evaluation concurs with that
assessment as well
The site currently lies along and outside of the proposed project boundary and will not be affected
by the undertaking. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.2.35 Site MF4008 (Deno Aygares Ranch)
Site Tyne Historic homestead/prehistoric lithic scatter
Legal Location Section 14, T3N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensio 1,476 x 361 ft (450 x 110 m)
Site Description Site 5MF4008 lies within the southern portion of the Colowyo Collom Mine
project area. The site was originally recorded in June of 1995 by MAC for the Colowyo Coal
Company 1995 lease and exploration areas: Class III cultural resource inventory. It was described
as a multicomponent site located in a narrow intermittent drainage valley crosscut by spring -fed
streams at 7,640 ft (2,329 m). The soil was characterized as alluvial and colluvial dark gray to
brown sandy loam. On -site vegetation consisted of grasses, nettle, and forbs, with aspen and
chokecherry in the general vicinity of the site.
The principal component consisted of a historic homestead, with a prehistoric lithic scatter of two
flakes spaced 150 in apart. The historic component of the site consisted of three standing buildings
(Features 1, 2, and 4) and two ruins (Features 3 and 5). At least two of the buildings (Features 1 and
2) were thought to be associated with the George W. Wright homestead (May 1920). Feature 1 was
a milled lumber outhouse, and Feature 2 was a log cabin used as a storage shed (Figure 6.226). The
logs were saddle- notched, the gable ends had board and batten sheathing with corrugated metal
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
