•
(
Ll
368 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Col /om Mine Project
Figure6.224 Overview of Caim, Site 5MF4006, Looking East(Takert by Darryl Newton, 8/25105).
The feature resembled either an eagle catch or represented the location of a vision quest, shelter, or
location of other unknown ceremonial importance.
The site was revisited in 2001 by the BLM Little Snake Field Office. The site was determined not
to have changed and needed further data to assess its NRHP eligibility status. The Colorado OAHP
database currently lists the site as officially needing more data.
TRC Mariah revisited the site in August of 2005 as part of the Colowyo Collom Mine expansion
project. The cairn was relocated and found to be built of large angular and subangular sandstone
boulders and in similar condition as described in 1995. No significant deposition was noted at the
locality, and no additional information could be obtained. The configuration of the stone feature
does not appear to possess the physical attributes characteristic of a historic period am or hunting
blind. Rather, its origins likely have some Native American affiliation.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
