Class III Inventory, ColowyoIs Collom Mine Project 339
•
Denver. This indicates that the initial period of occupation was during the late Depression era.
Cullins held the property until 1943, after which the land changed ownership four times. Axial
Basin Ranch Company owned the land by 1981.
NRHP Eligibifty Recommendation and Project Effect: Site 5MF1656 was originally evaluated
as not eligible for the NRHP, and the Colorado OAHP assessed the site as not eligible based on field
evaluation. The current inventory found the site to be in worse condition than the original recording,
and the evaluation and assessment concurs that Site 5MFI656 is not eligible for the NRHP. It did
not play a significant role in regional or local events or settlement due to the late date of the
homestead patent, and Claude Cullins was not a person of extraordinary historic significance. The
structures, even when extant, possessed no significant engineering or architectural attributes of
design, materials, and workmanship. The site has no potential to further our understanding of
ranching and settlement history of the region, socioeconomics, or domestic activities conducted at
the site.
The site lies within the mine permit boundary, but because the site is not eligible for the NRHP, there
will be no effect from the proposed project. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no
further work.
1 0
6.2.22 Site 5MF1657/2099
Site Tyne Historic homestead
Legal Location Section 30, T4N, R93W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 22 x 20 ft
Site Description Site 5MFI657/2099 is located within the northeast portion of the Colowyo
Collom Mine project area.
