f~
part VIII of Appendix R). The archaeological site descriptions and reeommenda-
tions as recorded by Archeological Services are as Follows:
Site number 5MF945:
SW/NW/SW/SE Sec. 29-T6N-R91W (UTM: ikA, 13,277160 mE, 4480120 mN. ~kB, 13,277120
mE, 4480100 mN. i1C, 13,277170 mE, 4480080 mN. ~kD, 13,277160 mE, 4480100 mN). A
lithic scatter with a concentration of primary and secondary flakes (suggesting a
possible tool manufacturing location), a grinding tool (mano) fragment, and sev-
eral fire cracked rack fragments were recorded. Evidence most likely indicates a
campsite of temporary nature. The site does not appear to be eligible for the
Rational Register. No further work is recommended.
Site number SMF946:
C/W-1/2/SE/SW/NW Sec. 34-T6N-R91W. (UTM: 4A, 13,279800 mE, 4479150 mN. #B,
13,279780 mE; 4479130 mN. ~C, 13,279800 mE, 4479120 mN. IkD, 13,279820 mE,
4479130 mN). A lithic scatter was found on a small sandstone outcropping above
an intermittent stream. Retouched flakes, one side-notched base, one obsidian
flake, and one corner-notched base were found within a concentration of
chalcedony flakes. This site was completely .surface collected, gridded and
shovel tested, at the instructions of the Principal Investigator. No further
work is recommended.
Site number SMF947:
SE/NE/SW/NW of Sec. 34-T6N-R91W. (UTM: 13,279900 mE, 4479200 mN). A lithic
scatter is located on a knoll between two minor streams, and adjacent to. a large
intermittent stream drainage. This site was completely surface collected, grid-
ded and shovel tested by order of the Principal Investigator. No further work is
recommended.
Site number SMF948:
SE/NE/NE/NE of Sec. 8-TSN-R90W. (UTM: 13,287080 mE, '4476100 mN). A pictograph
and petroglyph site is located on the sandstone wall of a cliff on the south side
of the' Williams Fork Mountains. The drainage culminates at the Williams Fork
River. Extensive color photographs were taken of this site in order to show the
contrast of red and yellow ocher. This site will be recommended to the National
Register. Avoidance is recommended. If construction activity comes within SO
fee[ of the site, the site should be fenced. Site SMF948 is located outside of
the proposed mine plan area, therefore no disLUrbance of this site is anCici-
pated.
~. `r~ 5S8'
2-590 ~iti
