mining? If so, please explain what criteria will be used to indicate when reclamation will
begin?
5.) Please indicate the depth the gravel will be mined?
6.) Will explosives be used during the mining process?
7.) If the stripped topsoil and overburden is stockpiled for longer than 180 days, it must
be protected from wind and water erosion by establishing vegetative cover on the
stockpiles. Please commit to planting grass seed on any stockpile of topsoil and
overburden left in place for longer than 180 days. Please indicate the seedmixture to be
applied to the stockpile.
6.4.5 EXHIBIT E - Reclamation Plan
8.) Given the post mine land use of pastureland for grazing, the slopes will need to be
graded so livestock and equipment can traverse the site. The reclamation plan indicates
slopes may be graded to less than a 3:1 horizontal to vertical ratio. Please commit to
grading all slopes to no steeper than a 3:1 horizontal to vertical ratio.
9.) The mining plan indicated 12- 36 inches of topsoil will be stripped prior to mining an
area. Please commit to spreading 12-36 inches of topsoil over the affected land during
reclamation.
10.) Please indicate the depth overburden will be replaced over the affected land during
reclamation.
11.) The reclamation plan indicates fertilizer will be applied to the reclaimed land.
However, the NRCS recommendations submitted with the reclamation plan do not
recommend fertilizer. Please clarify, if fertilizer will be used, please indicate the type of
fertilizer to be used and the ratios of Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium to be applied.
Also, please indicate how many pounds per acre of this fertilizer will be applied.
12.) If manure will be used during reclamation as a soil amendment, please indicate how
many tons of manure will be applied per acre?
13.) One main road and several auxiliary roads are located at the site. Please indicate
how these roads will be reclaimed? Will they be scarified, topsoiled and revegetated?
Will any portions of the roads be left after reclamation?
14.) Please indicate if all the recommendations listed on the NRCS document will be
followed for how the grass seeds will be planted.
