May Day and Idaho Mine Complex 112 (d) Permit Application
Seeding and planting is best performed during the fall season, September through October. Either could
also be performed in the late spring when precipitation is still anticipated for the spring season. Planting
must be 2-3 weeks in advance of expected frost dates to allow time for root establishment. Seed should
not be broadcast on top of more than a light dusting of snow cover.
f;.4.5(2) (e) Schedule
The schedule for reclamation will be tied to operational phases for the mine so the majority of the recla-
mation is concurrent with mining operation. Therefore, final reclamation will consist of the last opera-
tional phase and life-of-mine facilities (i.e., mill, roads, office building) only. The May Day and Idaho
Mine Complex will be conducted in six phases (Exhibit D, Section 6.4.4(1) (a)):
Phase 1 Preliminary Construction and Reclamation Activities
o Access Road Construction
o Grading of Existing Access Roads, Expansion of May Day No. 2 Bench and Installation
of Stormwater Best Management Practice Structures
o Repair of May Day No. 1 Portal
o Mill Retrofit and Commissioning into May Day No. 1 (i.e., underground)
o Ore Stockpile Consolidation
o Augmentation Pond Construction
o Reclamation Activities of Little Deadwood Gulch at May Day 2 and Chief Tunnel and re-
located ore stockpiles
• Phase 2 Milling Optimization
o Proposed tailings storage in stope (i.e., underground)
• Phase 3 Production Phase: May Day No 1. Operational Area
o Current reserve estimates indicate mining will continue for a minimum of 10 years at a
rate of 35-100 tons a day 365 days a year
• Phase 4. Exploration
o Preliminary exploration program includes 11 boreholes and their associated exploration
roads (Exhibit C - Figure C-4)
• Phase 5 Production Expansion
o Based on the results of the exploration phase, the total operational area may be expanded
• Phase 6. Final Closure
o Conduct final closure and reclamation activities
6 4 5(2) (e) (i) Approximate time period of reclamation for mine phases
The approximate timeline for each of the 6 phases of the mine operation, based on a 10 year mine life, is
presented in the table below. The first three phases are expected to be completed within the first 5 years
after commencement. Reclamation for these phases will be conducted at the end of completion of each
phase for all operations where reclamation is appropriate and the operation is not a life-of-mine operation
(such as the mill and augmentation pond). Phase 4 exploration drill holes are expected to be 3-4 holes per
year for approximately three years with each drill pad reclaimed with two weeks of abandonment as sea-
snn and weather Dermits. Exploration roads will be permanent.
May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112(d) Permit Application
September 21, 2010 (REVISED Oct. 22, 2010)
17
