'September 20,2010 C-1994-082/Yoast Mine DTM
Rill and gully and permanent channel repairs appeared to have been completed within the locations noted on the
2010 Rill and Gully Survey Map and other locations noted in recent inspection reports. The following relevant
observations were made:
-Minor maintenance and TRM replacement had been completed along the steep segment of YPM-8,below the
surge structure. Grass seedlings have recently emerged through the TRM.
-Repairs including TRM installation had been made to several gullies on the slopes below LU-3A,north of the
PM-8 road crossing.
-Substantial backfilling had been completed along upper sections of the temporary scraper road in the YPM-7
watershed; material was excavated from the Pond-12 slide repair trenching, and has resulted in sections of the
road that were below grade being brought up to or close to final grade elevations.
-Additional gully regrading and TRM channel installation had been properly completed in the vicinity of the stand
of aspen saplings on the Patrick property, at the upper end of the YPM-1-1 watershed.
-Drainages downstream of Stock Pond T-1 and upstream of the YPM-6-1/YPM-7 confluence appear to have held
up well; hillslope gullies in several locations in these watersheds were repaired with soil filled TRM channels.
The hillslope northeast of the lower end of YPM-6-1 that was regraded in 2009 to eliminate oversteepening has
remained stable. The slope was topsoiled and seeded last fall, and a satisfactory density of perennial seedlings has
become established.
-The"sinkhole"feature on the slope west of lower YPM-6-1,which was filled in last year, may have settled
to some extent since the original repair. Additional minor grading may be warranted to ensure that the
feature will drain.
-The steep segment of the YPM-7 channel has been heavily riprapped with angular limestone; upper, relatively flat
section of YPM-6-2 channel has been planted with willows, and the remaining section of YPM-6-2, down to Pond
12A had been shaped for TRM or riprap installation. The appropriate channel liner(riprap or TRM)will need
to be installed along YPM 6-2 as warranted, this fall. Rills and gullies on the lower south facing slopes along
the north side of YPM-6-2 had been properly graded out.
-Two gullies on steep slopes south of YPM-14(which drain to the Temporary Diversion#14)had been properly
repaired by grading and installation of soil filled TRM liner.
-Substantial rill and gully repair work had been completed in the Pond 11 A watershed, including repair of a
number of hillslope gullies by installation of soil filled TRM channels. Channel YPM-13 had.also been repaired
by regrading and installation of a soil filled TRM channel. The original wide, deep. riprapped YPM-13 channel
shape was retained, but within the over-sized channel, incised segments were shaped and repaired by installing soil
filled TRM channels, in accordance with recently approved TR-50. Within upper segments of the original
oversized channel, two closely spaced TRM channels were installed along primary flow paths, eventually merging
into a single TRM channel. In the YPM-13 channel,TRM was installed in overlapping"shingle"configuration,to
minimize the potential for undercutting. It appeared that seeding had not been completed along the channel
side slopes and work areas disturbed in association with channel construction in the YPM-13 watershed;
and the seeding will need to be completed this fall.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 3 of 13
