_ _ _ —=Environmenta
4. Record temperature value for the sample from the bottom scale of the meter display
in degrees Celsius. Allow time for the probe temperature to equilibrate with that of
the sample solution before reading. Record the temperature value on the field data
sheet and/or in the bound field logbook, as applicable.
The YSI Model 33 meter has been factory-calibrated for temperature. The probe contains a
precision thermistor temperature sensor of +0.1 degrees Celsius and +0.3 degrees Celsius at 40
degrees Celsius. Quarterly, check the meter against a National Institute of Standards and
Technology-certified field laboratory thermometer. Agreement should by within 0.5 degrees
Celsius.
CONDUCTIVITY MEASUREMENT
Probe Calibration Procedure
At the beginning of each day, calibrate the conductivity cell (probe) and the meter together as a
system to achieve maximum measurement accuracy in the field. The following method applies
to the YSI Model 33 meter. If another meter is used, refer to manufacturer's directions.
Calibration of the probe and meter shall be accomplished using certified YSI Conductivity
Calibrator Solution #3161, #3163, or equivalent certified calibrator solution. The YSI Model 33
meter shall be calibrated as follows:
1. Select a glass or plastic container several inches taller than the probe and at least 2-
inches greater in diameter. Clean this container with DS/DI water and dry with a
clean cloth or paper towel.
•
CO2127
