Page 12
indicated by staking on the dam and shore nearest to the location. Photographs will be taken for
documentation of the sampling location and the location will also be indicated on a map.
Sampling will be done from a boat or through ice when the reservoir is frozen. Samples will be
collected from the upper one-third of the reservoir water during reservoir filling. On alternating
months, or quarterly at a minimum, a sample will be collected from both the middle and lower
thirds of the reservoir at the sample location. Depth sampling will provide analytical results
from various depths within the reservoir to demonstrate the expected stable stratification of the
water quality or good water quality throughout the reservoir profile.
The Chalk Mountain Interceptor and North Interceptor canals collect surface runoff and near-
surface throughflow from the drainage basin surrounding the mine and redirect the water around
the site. Downspouts will be constructed into the two canals at the location of Eagle Park
Reservoir to provide a source of recharge to the reservoir. The canal water will be sampled from
each of the two downspouts during the monthly sampling events, provided that there is adequate
flow in the canals and that access is available.
• Sampling of the seep located below the Eagle Park Reservoir will occur when samples are first
collected of reservoir surface water. A second sample will be collected for verification of seep
closure, as indicated by informal monitoring of indicator parameters.
4.3 Sample Designation
Eagle Park Reservoir surface water sample designations are EPR-T, EPR-M, and EPR-B, repre-
senting Eagle Park Reservoir top, middle, and bottom depth increments. The canal water sample
designations are CMI and NI, identifying Chalk Mountain Interceptor and North Interceptor
canals. The seep sample designation is Seep4. Each quarterly (or monthly) sample will be
collected from the same location so one sample designation along with the sampling date will be
sufficient to identify samples. The date of the sample collection will denote the specific
sampling event.
4.4 Sampling Equipment and Procedures
A pond sampler will be used to collect surface water samples from the Eagle Park Reservoir.
The sampling procedure is as follows:
1. Assemble the pond sampler and attach a decontaminated sampling container.
CO2079
PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL
- - - ----
Environmental
CAPROJECTSM102-001Ut I176102.001[6120/%]
