• Page 10
3.6 QA/QC Samples
Appropriate QA/QC samples will be prepared in the field and laboratory. Field QA/QC samples
will include field duplicate, equipment rinseate, and split samples. Laboratory QA/QC samples
include laboratory control sample, preparatory blank, matrix spike, and either a matrix spike
duplicate or a sample duplicate. Definitions for the QA/QC samples are presented above in
Section 2.1. Table 1 summarizes the field QC samples and collection frequencies recommended
for procedures outlined in this SAP. Table 2 presents a description of the field QC samples and
typical collection frequencies and Table 3 provides a summary of the laboratory QC checks and
limits.
3.7 Sample Handling and Shipping
Chain-of-custody forms will be filled out for all samples sent to the laboratory. Shipping will be
consistent with current Department of Transportation (DOT) and other applicable regulations. A
detailed description of sample handling and shipping procedures.is presented in Appendix A.
• Each sample will be affixed with a label identifying the sample number, date and time the sample
was collected, the sampler's initials, and the site name. Duplicate and split samples will not be
identified as such.
3.8 Sample Custody
An established program of sample chain-of-custody procedures, as summarized in Appendix D,
will be followed during field sample collection and handling activities to account for each natural
sample and QA/QC sample. Preprinted labels with spaces provided will be used to maintain the
highest degree of control in sample handling and will ensure that all necessary information is
retained with the sample chain-of-custody records.
3.9 Laboratory Analytical and Calibration Procedures
Samples will be analyzed in a laboratory in compliance with EPA's CLP standards. The
laboratory will also perform calibration procedures for equipment utilized during analysis.
CO2077
PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL
Environmental
C:1PROlECTSW102-00IUt1176102.001[6/20/96] - - -- . _
