July 28, 2010 C-1980-005/Seneca II Mine DTM
The slope west of Stock Pond T-4, a short distance further down the PM-10 watershed,had recently been subject
to remedial grading,to smooth out topsoil berms along the edges of a former scraper travel route from a former
topsoil stockpile higher on the slope. Three cross ditches had been installed along the length of the corridor,to
divert runoff from the re-worked slope area and minimize erosion. Extension of the ditches appears to be
warranted,to ensure that flow is directed onto well vegetated slope areas,rather than the bare strips along the
edges of the scraper travel corridor(where the topsoil berms were recently graded out). This concern was
discussed with Roy Karo, SCC Reclamation Manager subsequent to the inspection, and he indicated that further
ditch work would be completed promptly, as warranted. Re-disturbed areas associated with the remedial grading
will need to be seeded.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1,4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13;
Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6,4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Ponds 004 and 008 were both discharging clear flow through the primary spillways. Patches of
noxious and undesirable weeds that warrant treatment were noted in several locations. Heavy patches of Canada
thistle were noted at the lower end of the solid waste disposal reclaimed swale area,and on the lower slope west of
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 3 of 7
