I was not accompanied by an operator contact, but checked in at the mine office and spoke to Dennis
Jones, SCC Hydrologist, prior to the inspection. Weather was cloudy, with intermittent rain showers that began
shortly prior to the inspection. The inspection focus was on grading and drainage repairs recently implemented in
the vicinity of the reclaimed solid waste disposal site(reclaimed in 2008), in the upper SIIPM-10 watershed. I
also drove Road El to the South Road junction, drove the length of the South Road, and inspected Sediment Ponds
004, 008,and adjacent areas. The permit for the new Sage Creek permit area was recently approved by DRMS.
The Seneca II permit area now overlaps with much of the new Sage Creek permit area. Permit Revision No.2
(PR-2), currently under review, would reduce the Seneca II permit area by 3011.9 acres. The much smaller
Seneca II permit would be limited to the Pond 008 watershed in the East Wadge area, upon approval of PR-2. The
remainder of the current Seneca II permit area has been included in the Sage Creek permit area.
BACKFILL and GRADING—Rule 4.14
Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour 4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f);
Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27;Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials 4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
The eroded segment of TRM lined channel at the upper end of SIIPM-10 (lower end of the regraded solid waste
disposal site)had been recently graded and prepared for installation of replacement TRM liner. A short tributary
gully that enters PM-10 in the close vicinity had also been graded to a channel configuration, and prepared for
TRM installation. These channel segments will need to be seeded, and TRM will need to be installed. The
operator indicated that the work would be completed shortly.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 2 of 7
