amec-40
Earth & Environmental
D) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
Oversize rock within the Phase 5 VLF fill area was removed from fill/cut areas and hauled to
the overburden stockpile area east of the east perimeter road near stations A29+00 (+/-) to
A32+00 (+/-) right of centerline.
E) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A CAT 385 excavator was used to excavate structural fill material from between stations
E20+00 (+/-) and E22+00 (+/-), approximately 75 to 150 feet right of centerline and between
stations J2+00 (+/-) and J10+00 (+/-), approximately 75 to 200 feet left of centerline. The
structural fill material was loaded into CAT 777 haul trucks with assistance from various CAT
dozers.
Structural fill was between stations A54+00 (+/-) and A58+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 100
left of centerline and between stations between stations C2+00 (+/-) and C7+50 (+/-),
approximately 30 feet left of centerline to 30 feet right of centerline. Structural fill was placed
in 18" to 24" lifts using various CAT dozes. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT
773 water truck (when necessary) and compacted using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum
compactor, passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique
was applicable).
Blast pattern drilling and blasting are complete for the Phase 5 VLF.
F) Soil Liner Fill
1) VLF
Soil liner fill (SLF) placement continued in the areas shown in Figure 3, hauling from the East
Cresson Clay borrow. Subgrade was approved and moisturized prior to placement using a
tandem-axel water truck. Placement was performed using two CAT D-6 dozers, and one CAT
skid steer loader in a one-foot compacted lift. Moisture conditioning was performed using a
tandem-axel water truck and compaction was performed using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum
compactor. Nuclear density testing, moisture verification, and depth checks were performed in
the geomembrane deployment areas throughout the week. All test results were within project
specifications and all test locations were surveyed by Ames.
G) PSSA Ore Slope Construction
1) VLF
Construction of the remaining portion of the PSSA ore slope continued between stations
G13+00 (+/-) and G28+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 225 feet left of centerline using a CAT D-
6 LGP dozer and a CAT 279 skid steer loader. Existing ore was pushed over the previously
certified secondary geomembrane, constructing the toe of the slope (if applicable). Geotextile
was placed over any geomembrane within three feet of the slope toe. A 10-ton smooth drum
roller was used to compact the surface of the ore slope 2' or more above the geomembrane and
a plate compactor was used to compact the remaining portion of the slope.
VLF Weekly Report WE 06.26.10.D
