amec-0
Earth & Environmental
SLF material was hauled from the East Cresson Clay borrow area and stockpiled near stations
A28+00 (+/-), approximately 200 feet left of centerline. Material was hauled using CAT 777
haul trucks loaded by a CAT 385 excavator.
G) PSSA Ore Slope Construction
1) VLF
Construction of the remaining portion of the PSSA ore slope continued between stations
G8+00 (+/-) and G16+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 225 feet left of centerline using a CAT D-6
LGP dozer and a CAT 279 skid steer loader. Existing ore was pushed over the previously
certified secondary geomembrane, constructing the toe of the slope (if applicable). Geotextile
was placed over any geomembrane within three feet of the slope toe. A 10-ton smooth drum
roller was used to compact the surface of the ore slope 2' or more above the geomembrane and
a plate compactor was used to compact the remaining portion of the slope.
H) Low Volume Collection System
1) Low Volume Solution Collection Piping
Placement of the low volume solution collection system continued at the LVSCF placement
area shown in Figure 6, advancing in front of the placement. Four-inch CPeP was placed and
sandbagged in accordance with design drawings, constructing the mainline and the tertiary
lines. The secondary geomembrane in the area was accepted prior to pipe placement.
2) Low Volume Solution Collection Fill (LVSCF)
Low volume solution collection fill (LVSCF) material placement within the Phase 5 VLF
continued. LVSCF was placed in the area show in Figure 6. The LVSCF was hauled from the
processing area to the placement area using CAT 740 haul trucks loaded by a 988 front-end
loader. The LVSCF was placed in a 3-foot lift using two CAT D-6 LGP dozers, a CAT D-7
LGP dozer, and a CAT D-8 LGP dozer, expect were haul routes were established. Haul route
consisted in five-foot lifts, to be spread into 3-foot lifts later. Laborers were present at all times
during placement holding the low volume solution collection piping in place, removing
debris/sandbags, and assisting the dozer operator with lift thickness. All LVSCF was placed on
previously approved secondary geomembrane. AMEC field representatives observed
placement constantly during the shift.
I) Underdrain Construction
1) Secondary Underdrain Construction
Construction of the Secondary Underdrain was performed using a CAT 330 excavator to
excavate the trench. Underdrain construction was performed from the tie-in to the Primary
Underdrain at station 18+40, up the slope, stopping above the 9775' elevation (above PSSA).
Subgrade and trench dimensions were inspected by an AMEC field representative and found to
be constructed in accordance with design drawings and project specifications. 10 oz. /yd2
geotextile was placed in the trench. Underdrain fill material was then placed in the trench and
the geotextile was wrapped around the material, overlapping 1-foot. Six to eight inches of
select structural fill was placed and compacted above the geotextile. The remaining portion of
the trench was then backfilled with structural fill.
VLF Weekly Report WE 06.19.10.1)
