- Light Use Roads: From mine yard area to Sediment Pond,
Topsoil stockpile /power line areas; 14 feet wide; durable
surface; approximately total length of segments 700 feet.
Drainage from all mine roads will be controlled by proper construction,
ongoing maintenance, and specific drainage measures. In addition to
the listed haul, access, and light -use roads, there are existing ranch
roads on the properties within the permit area. These roads may be
used on an occasional basis for access to hydrology and subsidence
monitoring sites or for exploration drilling activities.
Upon completion of mining, and during final reclamation of disturbed
areas, Northfield will reclaim all roads except those approved for
permanent retention to support the postmining land use. Roads
removed during reclamation will be reclaimed by ripping road surfaces
to alleviate compaction, grading road areas to blend with surrounding
terrain, topsoiling, and revegetating the resulting disturbed road areas.
Portions of the mine entrance haul road, downgraded to a light -use
road, will remain after initial reclamation activities have been
comp_leted_to .a.11ow access for maintenance and monitoring of the
reclaimed areas, and pond maintenance and reclamation activities.
Near the end of the reclamation liability area, this and any other
remaining road segments will be reclaimed or retained as described
above.
Power Transmission Lines and Associated Facilities
Electrical utilities at the proposed mine will be served by the existing
69KV transmission lines that cross the permit area north of the
facilities area. A transmission line, constructed by the local electric
utility company, will connect the mine substation to the existing 69KV
power line. A substation constructed at the north end of the facility
area will provide power to the mine and surface facilities. The
substation will include circuit interrupters and transformers to step the
power down to a lower voltage for distribution and use at the surface
facilities and into the mine for underground operations.
Power poles will be installed from the mine substation to the mine fan
installation. The facility area will utilize buried lines to distribute power
for mine uses. All required power poles will be installed to provide
required overhead line clearance, where necessary, and will conform to
standard Rural Electric Association (REA) design criteria. General
construction and dimensional information for facility overhead power
lines is provided on Table 2.05.3 -2.
2.05.3 -21 Revised 12/04/09, TR -01
