scrap metal will be removed from the metal recycling area. Storage
areas will be covered by backfill material and reclaimed with the
surrounding facility bench area.
Crushing and Screening Plant
Run -of -mine (raw) coal product coming from the mine on the slope
conveyor belt will be transferred to a second elevated conveyor and
into the raw coal stockpile located to the west and adjacent to the
portal area. The raw coal will be transferred by wheeled loaders to a
hopper and feed belt that will carry the material into the crushing and
screening plant. Northfield anticipates processing all raw coal through
a proposed crushing and screening facility prior to shipping the product
to its customers.
An area located adjacent to the raw coal stockpile is proposed for the
crushing and screening facility. All coal processing equipment will be
located within a protective building. The purpose of the structure will
be shield the equipment from adverse weather and to mitigate fugitive
dust emissions. The structure will be fabricated with light- weight steel
beams, covered with steel sheeting, and anchored to concrete piles to
carry the load of the structure and provide structural stability.
Openings on at least two sides of the building will provide outlets for
beltlines and access to the processing equipment. General construction
and dimensional information for the crushing and screening enclosure
is provided on Table 2.05.3 -2.
As raw coal enters the processing facility it will be first screened to
separate the material into 3 by 1 -1/4 inch coarse fraction and a 1 -1/4
by 0 inch fine fraction. The coarse fraction will transfer down through a
short chute into a roll crusher that will reduce the top size of the
material to approximately 2 inches. Both the fine fraction coal and the
crushed coal will drop through chutes onto separate short conveyors,
which then combine the materials and feed a radial stacker belt.
Processing equipment will be configured to allow potential installation
of another screen in the future to separate a stoker size coal from the
combined fine and crushed coal products. Coal leaving the facility will
flow onto the stacker belt which will be able to move for the purpose of
creating and managing an elongated clean coal stockpile or separate
smaller stockpiles.
Upon completion of mining and related activities, and during final
reclamation, the processing equipment will be removed and salvaged.
The metal structure will similarly be removed and salvaged, and the
remaining concrete footers will be demolished and resulting debris will
be placed in a designated disposal area and covered.
