This Mine Life
Extension effort will extend the Cresson Project's mine life through 2016.
Amendment No. 9 site preparation and development activities continued in the Main
Cresson and East Cresson-WiIdhorse and WHEX-Mine Areas.
Amendment No. 9 incorporated the Cameron Mine Permit (M-1991-134) into the
Cresson Project Permit (M-1980-244), and on December 4, 2008, CC&V requested
termination of the Cameron Permit (M-1991-134) and release of the associated financial
warranty. Reclamation of the Cameron site is now fully included in the. Cresson Project
Amendment No. 9 approval and financial warranty.
Technical Revisions ("TRs") were submitted to and approved by the DRMS for:
• TR-55 -Revised Backfill Plan and Temporary Ironclad Access Road
• TR-56 - ADR Utility Lines and VLF Phase 5 Closure Drain
• TR-57 - Process Fluid Injection Program for the VLF
Enhancement and general maintenance of stormwater control features continued in
2009. Other Amendment No. 9 construction activities will continue throughout 2010 and
beyond.
Reclamation in 2009 consisted of approximately 11.6 acres along the southern slope of
the East Cresson (East Cresson Mine Expansion-"ECME") backfill. Portions of this
area were regraded and received six inches of growth medium, followed by
hydroseeding and hydromulching with organic amendments. Approximately 9.9 acres
of the angle-of-repose eastern slope of the Ruby Visual / Noise Berm also received
growth medium, followed by hyd.roseeding and hydromulching with organic
amendments. A significant erosional area caused by historic mining activities near the
historic Andrews Mine was recontoured, topsoiled, and hand seeded. The Andrews
reclamation project consisted of approximately 2.6 acres. All three areas discussed
above were reclaimed in the spring of 2009 and exhibited good first year germination
and growth.
Weed control techniques were implemented within the Cresson Project area in 2009
and will continue in 2010.
Per the requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-116(3), and C.R.S. 34-32.5-116(3)(a):
Reclamation accomplished to date: Approximately 310 acres
