•
•
Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: July 17, 2009
Subject: Third Quarter 2009 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On July 16, 2009 I conducted an inspection of the operational, reclaimed, and revegetated
areas at the Keenesburg Mine for evidence of plant pests, noxious weeds, and plant
diseases that could affect the re-established vegetation at the Keenesburg Mine. Above
normal late spring and summer moisture amounts have resulted in significant growth of
vegetation on the reclaimed and native areas at the mine. It was noted during the
inspection that cool and warm season graminoids and forbs revealed robust growth this
growing season and were in anthesis or within two weeks of flower maturity and/or seed
set.
All reclaimed and revegetated areas of the mine, including the 1985, 1986, 1987, 1995,
1998 interseedings, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006 seedings were inspected by
pedestrian and vehicle means. The dugout area, the small cottonwood grove, the
sediment pond bottom and embankments, topsand piles, the B Pit bottom and side slopes,
and long-term overburden storage area were also inspected for any potential problem
areas.
I did not identify any disease conditions at any of the operational, reclaimed, or
revegetated areas of the mine site. I did not identify any plant pests which had affected
the growth of the vegetation during the growing season. No areas which experienced any
infestation or blight were found during the inspection. No patches of noxious weed
species were observed, nor were any areas observed where weeds, plant pests, or disease
showed a deleterious effect to the live vegetation.
C: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File
Danny Kipp, Keenesburg Mine
AHR-2009
-30-
