• Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: May 18, 2009
Subject: Second Quarter 2009 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On May 14, 2009, as an adjunct to the Phase III bond release inspection, I conducted an
inspection of the operational, reclaimed, and revegetated areas at the Keenesburg Mine
for evidence of plant pests, noxious weeds, and plant diseases that could affect the re-
established vegetation at the Keenesburg Mine. April precipitation from one significant
event has yielded significant growth in the cool season graminoid and forb components at
the mine. Mountain brome, Indian ricegrass, western wheatgrass, cheatgrass, and ragweed
showed early season growth.
• The 1985, 1986, 1987, 1995, and 1997 reclamation areas were inspected by pedestrian
and vehicle means. Additionally, surrounding areas; including the small cottonwood
grove, topsand piles, B Pit and adjacent area, the periphery of the long-term overburden
storage area, boundaries of the fenced oil and gas pads and roads, and several areas
outside the former mine disturbance area were also inspected for any potential problems.
We did not identify any disease conditions at any of the operational, reclaimed, or
revegetated areas of the mine site. We did not identify any plant pests which had affected
the growth of the vegetation during the past growing season or over the winter. No areas
which experienced any infestation or blight were found during the inspection. No patches
of noxious weed species were observed, nor were any areas observed where weeds, plant
pests, or disease showed a deleterious effect to the live vegetation.
C: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File
Danny Kipp, Keenesburg Mine
•
AHR-2009 -29-
