Two way radio 1 per vehicle In each vehicle
Other Equipment:
Disabled Vehicle Markers 1 set per vehicle In each vehicle
Shovel 1 per vehicle In each vehicle
Tool Set 1 set per vehicle In each vehicle
The other and most important element at emergency preparedness is trained and well
informed people. Colorado Stone Quarries, Inc. will train all of its employees who will
be involved in off site activities, which includes at this time, the haul truck operators and
personnel involved in driving company vehicles off site. In addition, all employees,
whether employed at the quarry or in off-site activities, will receive training and
information regarding personal and public safety in commuting to and from the quarry
site. Emphasis will be placed on courteous and safe operation of company and personal
vehicles, in particular along the steep quarry access road between the town of Marble and
the quarry. Each employee will be required to not only receive the training, but must
demonstrate proficiency in the application of training through practical exercises and/or
testing.
Communications Plan
In any emergency, an effective communications plan is essential to securing, and
coordinating the entities involved in the response actions. This section of the emergency
response plan describes the communication systems and the procedures for using such
systems in emergency situations.
Communication Facilities
Primary communication facilities at the quarry site will be provided by two way
radio to the telephone interconnect in Marble. Telephone calls to the array of emergency
services will occur through the two way radio system In addition, two way radios will
be installed in all Sierra vehicles. These will operate on an established frequency for
routine communications at the quarry and along the access road.
Radios will be installed in all contractor operated haul trucks and will be tuned to
the same operating frequency (152.99 mHz) as the Gunnison and Roaring Fork school
district buses. A standardized communication protocol between the truck operators and
the buses will be established to avoid operating conflicts along the common areas of the
haul route.
During an on or off site emergency, the radios will only be allowed to be used for
emergency related and essential communications. At all other times the use of vehicle
radios shall be limited to business purposes since operation of a radio can be an
=annecessary distraction to the safe operation of the vehicle.
16
