3. Mine Facilities and Operation
The Gehrman Pit will use the processing facilities currently in place on the Bunn Ranch Pit.
Only excavation will take place at the Gehrman Pit. The Bunn Ranch Pit is completing mining of
its reserves during the start up of the Gehrman Pit. Raw material will be mined from the
Gehrman Pit, transported to the Bunn Ranch processing area, and final products will then be
hauled off-site and sold. No processing will take place within the Gehrman Pit. The portions of
the Bunn Ranch with processing facilities and offices are being reclaimed as an industrial site,
allowing Gehrman to use them when Bunn Ranch is released from its 112 DRMS permit. No
night operations are scheduled for this site. Some night time equipment maintenance may take
place on the Bunn Ranch site.
The lack of processing facilities on site means there will be no fuel or maintenance oil storage.
No facilities or structures of any kind will be present on the Gehrman permit area. The only
source of potential spills will be the moving equipment working at the Gehrman site. The
Division will be notified in case of any such spills on site. The portable mining equipment such
as loaders, dozers, trucks and excavators will be serviced on an as-needed basis, but always on
the Bunn Ranch site.
If water levels in the Ana Branch and the Yampa River become high enough to flood the nit, all
mining equipment will be removed until any flood waters subside. The pit will not be isolated
from area flooding.
Power is available from the Bunn Ranch site. There will be no additional fencing added around
the operation, since it is inside a private property and protected by topsoil berms and river
branches. No problems with vandalism are expected.
The operator commits to clearly marking the permit boundary with stakes surveyed on site. The
site will use all existing roads to haul the product to its final destination. A single haul road will
be constructed. It is planned that the material may be used to re-surface existing roads, make
Gehrman Pit October 09 D-4
