October 2004 -3- 043 -2170
portions of the temporary storm water diversion channel, installation of 24 -inch high
density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, installation of 26 -inch corrugated steel pipe
(CSP), installation of structural concrete, placement of rip rap, placement of inlet
and outlet structures, and placement of Pipe Bedding Material (PBM). Golder
performed CQA laboratory testing of grain size and Atterberg limits during
construction of the diversion channels.
• Golder monitored construction of the Leak Detection Trench (LDT), including
verification that Ames excavated the trench to minimum required dimensions and
placed materials as specified. Golder performed CQA laboratory testing including
grain size and Atterberg limits on Leak Detection Fill (LDF) placed in the LDT.
• Golder monitored site grading, including slope re- contouring and fill placement, lift
thickness, moisture conditioning, temperatures, compactive effort, and use of
suitable material for SF. Golder performed CQA laboratory testing of grain size
and Atterberg limits.
• Golder visually monitored subgrade preparation to confirm that the subgrade
surface was unyielding, free of organic matter and other unsuitable materials, and
that the subgrade surface was compacted prior to Soil Liner Fill (SLF) placement.
• Golder visually monitored the placement and compaction of SLF including
observation of depth verification performed by Ames, particle size, moisture
conditioning, and compaction of the fill. Golder performed in -place density and
moisture content testing, and performed CQA laboratory testing of grain size,
moisture content, Atterberg limits, compaction, and permeability. Golder also
• provided visual monitoring of the SLF surface preparation and moisture
conditioning for geomembrane deployment, including verification that the surface
was proof-rolled, compacted, and hand - worked so as to be free of desiccation
cracks, abrupt grade changes, and sharp stones or objects. Golder also observed the
backfill and compaction of the anchor trenches.
• Golder visually monitored the placement of Drain Cover Fill (DCF) in the OSA,
including verification of lift thickness and grade control, identification of deleterious
materials, and verification that care was exercised in fill placement to avoid
geomembrane damage. Golder performed CQA laboratory testing of grain size and
Atterberg limits.
Golder monitored the installation of High Volume Solution Collection System
(HVSCS) piping. Golder visually verified that pipes were installed to the lines and
grades shown on the plans.
Golder monitored the ambient air temperatures and the temperature of all fills,
including SLF, in accordance with project specifications.
1.2.2 COA/COC M onitoring of Geosynthetics Installation
Golder provided CQA monitoring of geosynthetics used for the Phase We OSA. CQC services
• provided by Golder consisted of performing geosynthetics inventory and checking quality control
1:v 042r7a9+oa%Cen- Qeruvc- 10OM432IX040 12U&CenPWcd.
