3.1.8 Wildlife
(1) There are no known endangered or threatened species that are
dependent on this property, and mining activities are based on considering
the safety of the area wildlife. It is anticipated that the mining will
temporarily displace some wildlife species. These species should have no
difficulty in reestablishing themselves once the mining and reclamation is
completed.
(2) The reclamation plan does not propose to create wildlife habitat.
3.1.9 Topsoiling
(1) The topsoil and overburden materials at this site are not easily
segregated.. The total depth of overburden and topsoil is less than two (2)
feet of some of the areas. Therefore, topsoil and overburden will be
stockpiled together as a growth media. All topsoil/overburden removed will
be stockpiled around the perimeter of the permitted area. If the topsoil
stockpile is left unused for longer than six (6) months, it will be revegetated
with a fast growing cover crop to minimize potential wind and water
erosion.
Fines material dredged from any settling pond will also be used as a growth
media.
(2) There are no trees at this site.
(3) All topsoil will be stored around the perimeter of the permit area.
This location was chosen to help limit the possibilities of interference with
the mining operations, provide a site barrier of the operation and to reduce
the need to relocate the topsoil as mining progresses. Material removed
from a settling pond will be windrowed near the settling pond to dry then
moved to the topsoil stockpile area or used immediately for topsoiling if an
area is such an area is available.
(4) Once stockpiled, the topsoil will not be rehandled until an area is
ready for topsoil replacement.
(5) The Operator will commit to replacing topsoil in such a manner as to
insure stability and to eliminate slippage zones. All underlying material will
be scarified to help ensure good contact with the topsoil.
