amen
Earth & Environmental
feet right of centerline; and between stations K6+00 (+/-) and K10+00 (+/-), approximately 50
to 100 feet right of centerline. The structural fill material was spread using various CAT dozers
in 18" to 24" lifts. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck (when
necessary) and compacted using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the
entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable).
Structural fill (processed ore) was placed within the Phase IV VLF, between stations G0+00
(+/-), G12+00 (+/-), B2+50 (+/-), and B4+00 (+/-), approximately 100 to 150 feet left of the
"G" centerline. Existing processed ore was placed using a CAT D-6 LGP dozer in 12" loose
lifts and moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck. Compaction was achieved using a
10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor. Structural fill placement was observed by an AMEC
representative constantly. Nuclear density testing was performed with results averaging 95% of
maximum dry density. Moisture density relations were performed in accordance with ASTM
D-698-07. Today's placement will achieve more than five feet of cover over the Phase IV
geomembrane, allowing haulage using the 40-ton articulating haul trucks
Blast pattern drilling was performed in the following areas: between stations A7+00 (+/-) and
A10+00 (+/-), approximately 200 to 250 feet left of centerline: between stations H2+00 (+/-)
and H4+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline; and between stations J26+00
(+/-) and J27+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline using two track mounted
drill rigs. Blasting was performed in these areas Tuesday (10/6/2009), Wednesday (10/7/2009),
and Thursday (10/8/2009).
H) Material Processing
1) South Cresson Clay Processing Area
Processing of Soil Liner Fill material resumed at the South Cresson Clay Process. A CAT D-8
dozer, a CAT 320 excavator, and a CAT 966 front-end loader were used to process the
material.
Location This Week
(tons) Cumulative
(tons) Comments
So Cresson Clay Processing 5,360 98,913
Squaw Gulch Processing 0 35,816 Processing in area complete.
Total 5,360 134,729
I) New ADR Water Tank and Crusher Waterline
No work performed during the week.
J) Miscellaneous
Removal of the old solution lines was finished by cutting the welds in the lines using an
oxy/acetylene cutting torch.
Removal of the old power poles was performed throughout the week.
VLF Weekly Report WE 10.10.09.1)
