amec
Earth 8 Environmental
E) Slope Contouring
1) VLF
Slope contouring was performed in the following areas: between stations H26+00 (+/-) and H
H34+00 (+/-), approximately 100 feet left of centerline to 300 feet right of centerline; between
stations J3+00 (+/-) and J6+00 (+/-), approximately 100 feet left of centerline to 300 feet right
of centerline; and between stations J18+00 (+/-) and J20+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 150 left
of centerline. Contouring was performed using various CAT dozers. Material generated as the
cut progressed was pushed down the slope.
F) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
Oversize rock within the Phase 5 VLF fill area was removed from fill areas and hauled to the
overburden stockpile area east of the east perimeter road between stations A28+00 (+/-) to
A36+00 (+/-).
G) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A John Deere 850 excavator, a CAT 375 excavator, and a CAT 385 excavator excavated
structural fill material from the following areas: between stations between stations A8+75 (+/-)
and J28+00 (+/-), approximately 100 feet left of centerline to 100 feet right of centerline;
between stations H17+00 (+/-) and H27+00 (+/-), approximately 150 feet left of centerline to
150 feet right of centerline; and between stations J26+00 (+/-) and J27+00 (+/-), approximately
30 left of centerline to 30 right of centerline. The structural fill material was loaded into CAT
777 haul trucks.
Structural fill material was placed in the following areas: between stations A39+00 (+/-) and
A45+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline; between A52+00 (+/-) and
A61+50 (+/-), approximately 25 to 200 feet right of centerline; and between stations K8+00
(+/-) and K10+00 (+/-), approximately 90 to 125 feet right of centerline. The structural fill
material was spread using various CAT dozers in 18" to 24" lifts. Each lift was moisture
conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck (when necessary) and compacted using a 10-ton
vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method
compaction technique is applicable).
Blast pattern drilling was performed between stations A6+00 (+/-) and A8+75 (+/-),
approximately 50 feet left of centerline to 20 feet right of centerline and between stations
J26+00 (+/-) and J27+50 (+/-), approximately 30 feet left of centerline to 30 feet right of
centerline using two track mounted drill rigs. Blasting was performed in this area on Tuesday
(9/15/2009) and Friday (9/17/2009).
H) Material Processing
1) South Cresson Clay Processing Area
Processing of Soil Liner Fill material continued at the South Cresson Clay Processing area. A
CAT D-6 dozer, a CAT 330 excavator, and a CAT 966 front-end loader were used to process
the material. Clay production was slowed due to saturated stockpiles.
VLF Weekly Report WE 09.18.09.D.doc
