2. Production - Clipping of randomly located quadrats at least '/ square meter,
oven drying and weighing.
3. Species diversity - standards are not applicable to irrigated pastureland,
irrigated hayland, or dryland pasture reclaimed areas. All Rangeland
reclaimed areas have been approved for final bond release.
4. Woody plant density - Not applicable to the remaining dryland pasture area.
Rangeland areas have been approved for final bond release.
New Horizon Mine 2:
Sl.atis ically • vauu iineuivuS tut vegeLaUuu saiiipuug ariu Uemons ra"LIVll of
revegetation success applicable to irrigated pasture reclaimed areas were revised
within TR-58, approved in 2009. These methods are described on permit pages
2.05.4(2)(e)(19L) through (e)(20), and comply with applicable requirements of
Rule 4.15.11, A diversity/forage quality standard has been established for irrigated
pasture reclaimed areas, which will be based on a statistically adequate production
sample, or a minimum of 30 clipped quadrats within a bond release block.
Success demonstration methods for land use types other than irrigated pastureland
were not amended in TR-58, and remain as previously approved. These methods
include the following:
1. Cover - Point intercept along a randomly located line transect or ocular
estimates in randomly located sample quadrats (cover sampling is not required
on Irrigated Hayland or Irrigated Cropland reclaimed areas).
2. Production - Clipping of 3 foot by 3 foot plots, oven drying and weighing or
total harvest based on weighing of baled hay, and total count of bales on the
bond release parcel. The technique used depends on the end land use of the
area sampled, with the total harvest method of comparison an optional
approach for irrigated pastureland and irrigated hayland.
3. Species diversity - Species diversity standards have not been established for
irrigated hayland, or dryland pasture reclaimed areas within the New Horizon
Mine 2 area. For the relatively intensive agricultural land uses proposed,
simple seed mixes comprised of a small number of productive forage grasses
and legumes are appropriate. The relatively small acreage of dryland pasture
will be interspersed among the larger irrigated blocks, and will be used for
livestock grazing rotations in association with management of the irrigated
lands. There will be some diversity among land use types due to the use of
different seed mixes and management practices, however, no specific
quantitative diversity standards have been established for these land use types.
39
