amec'0
Earth & Environmental
Near Station 34+00 (+/-), right of centerline on the LOB Delivery Road, a shaft has been
found at the existing toe of the cut slope. This appears to be another underground working,
which was not known. Ames survey will locate the shaft. At this time, the shaft has been
backfilled with rock for safety and is marked with lath and flagging. Based on information
provided by Ames, the shaft is within a cut area and may be removed once the road is
completed.
Underground working 2039: Full-time observation during the week on the placement of
three layers of geogrid and select structural fill. Work conforms to the Remediation Plan
prepared by AMEC. To date: 3860 square feet of geogrid and 119 cubic yards of select
structural fill have been placed and tested for compaction. Test results by Nuclear Methods
(ASTM D-2922 &3017) exceed 97% of Proctor density, (ASTM D-698). Moisture
contents are near optimum.
C. Lateral/Slot Remediation
No work performed during shift
III. Stormwater Management Structures
A. LOB Stormwater Culverts
No work performed during shift.
B. Roadside ditch
No work performed during shift.
C. Best Management Practices (BMP)
No work performed during shift. Existing silt fencing structures appear to be in good
condition.
IV. LOB Geosynthetics
A. LLDPE Geomembrane 80 and 100 mil LLDPE
LOB Pad: Lone Star has completed the deployment of approximately 36,050 square feet of
geomembrane liner on Wednesday. Panel numbers 1-17 are 80-:mil LLDPE, smooth,
which encompassed approximately 34,530 square feet. The remaining panels, 18-21, are
100-mil LLDPE textured one side (smooth side up), which encompassed approximately
1,520 square feet. 100-mil LLDPE textured one side was used to complete the pad because
the contractor was short of 80-mil LLDPE, smooth geomembrane. All geomembrane
deployed, including seaming and testing, is inspected and recorded by AMEC personnel.
All trial welds witnessed, including 80-to 80 mil, 80-to 100 mil, and 100-to 100 mil, were
tested and recorded per the project specifications. A total of 6-trial fusion welds were
witnessed and recorded. 1,925 lineal feet of fusion welding was observed.
On Thursday, all extrusion trial welds were witnessed and tested prior to start-up. 139
lineal feet of extrusion welding was observed for the tie-in to the existing Phase IV
Geomembrane. Four patches were completed. Air channel testing; is completed on 20
seams. All air channel tests passed. The results are recorded.
Ambient temperatures ranged from 357 to 40°F during the welding process, both days.
The work to date conforms to the Project specifications.
Sheet 4 of 11
LOB Weekly Report WE 04.18.09.D
