amen
Earth 8 Environmental
D) Subgrade Preparation
1) VLF
Subgrade preparation was performed in the following areas: between stations A36+00 (+/-)
and 41+00 (+/-), approximately 100 feet right of centerline to 250 feet left of centerline;
between A41+00 (+/-) and A44+00 (+/-), approximately 100 to 300 feet left of centerline;
between A20+00 (+/-) and J15+00 (+/-), approximately 200 to 300 feet left of centerline;
between L0+00 (+/-) and L2+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 200 feet left of centerline; and
between stations B 11+00 (+/-) and B 12+00 (+/-), approximately 50 feet left of centerline to 50
feet right of centerline. These areas were ripped to a depth of 6" to 8" using various CAT
dozers. The areas were moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck and compaction was
performed using a CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum compactor passing over the entire surface
at least 4 times. These areas were inspected and accepted by an AMEC representative prior to
any fill placement.
E) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A John Deere 850D excavator, a Komatsu 800 excavator, a CAT 375 excavator, and a CAT
385 track excavator excavated structural fill material from the following areas: between
stations J2+00 (+/-) and J11+00 (+/-), approximately 50 to 250 feet left of centerline; between
stations A14+00 (+/-) and A15+50 (+/-), approximately 100 to 150 feet left of centerline;
between stations A18+00 (+/-) and A22+00 (+/-), approximately to 100 feet left of centerline;
and between stations A20+00 (+/-) and A22+00 (+/-), approximately 40 feet left of centerline
to 40 feet right of centerline. The structural fill material was transported using 777 haul trucks
and 40-ton articulating haul trucks.
Structural fill was placed between stations A16+00 (+/-) and A36+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to
200 feet left of centerline. Structural fill was placed using a CAT D 10 dozer, a CAT D-9 dozer,
and two CAT D-8 dozer in 18" to 24" lifts (based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the
fill was performed using a CAT 773-water truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563
smooth drum vibratory compactor passing over the entire surface at least 4 times (method
compaction technique is applicable).
Structural fill was placed between stations L0+00 (+/-) and L2+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to
200 feet left of centerline. Structural fill was placed using a CAT D9 dozer and a CAT D-6
dozer in 18" to 24" lifts (based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the fill was performed
using a CAT 773-water truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563 smooth drum vibratory
compactor passing over the entire surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is
applicable).
Structural fill was placed between stations J3+00 (+/-) and J4+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to 200
feet left of centerline. Structural fill was placed using a CAT D-8 dozer in 18" to 24" lifts
(based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the fill was performed using a CAT 773-water
truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563 smooth drum vibratory compactor passing
over the entire surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable).
Sheet 2 of 7
VLF Weekly Report WE 06.20.09.D.doc
