amec'
Earth 8 Environmental
3) Topsoil Relocation
No work performed during the week.
C) Overburden to Stockpile:
1) VLF
Oversize rock within in the Phase 5 VLF fill area was stockpiled using a CAT D-9 dozer for
future haul. Oversize materials previously stockpiled were moved to the east slope of the Phase
5 east perimeter road using a CAT D-9 dozer and a CAT D-8 dozer.
2) VLF Subgrade Preparation
No work performed during the week.
3) VLF, PSSA Haul Road
No work performed during the week.
D) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A John Deere 850D excavator and Komatsu 800 excavator excavated structural fill material
between stations J1+50 and J14+50, approximately 75 to 200 feet left of centerline. The
structural fill material was transported using 777 haul trucks and 40-ton articulating haul
trucks. Structural fill was placed in the VLF between stations A22+00 (+/-) and A34+00 (+/-),
approximately 50 to 400 feet left of centerline. Structural Fill was placed using one CAT D-9
dozer and two CAT D-8 dozer. Lift thickness was 18" to 24" (based on rock size). Moisture
conditioning of the fill was performed using a CAT 773-water truck. Each lift was compacted
with a smooth drum vibratory roller a minimum of 4-passes over the entire surface (method
compaction technique is applicable).
Rockbreakers began drilling a shot pattern between stations A17+50 (+/-) and A20+00(+/-)
using three track mounted drill rigs. The area was shot Thursday.
Rockbreakers began drilling a shot pattern at the new ADR Tank Pad excavation using two
track mounted drill rigs.
2) VLF, PSSA Haul Road
No work performed during the week.
3) Sediment Collection Pond
Processing and re-compaction of soil liner fill in the Sediment Pond was performed using a
CAT D-6 dozer, a John Deere 35D excavator, and a CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum
compactor. Soil liner fill from the northeast corner of the pond was removed, replaced, and re-
compacted due to saturated material. Six nuclear density tests were performed with results
averaging 96% of maximum dry density and averaging at or near optimum moisture content.
Moisture-density relations were performed in accordance with ASTM D698-07. Two depth
checks were performed and approved by an AMEC representative with assistance from Ames.
The southeast corner of the pond will be completed after removal of the access ramp is
completed. Work in this area will continue into next week.
Sheet 2 of 6
VLF Weekly Report WE 06.13.09.D.doc
