Colowyo C-1981-019
27 May 2009
Pg 417
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) Contained water
approximately four feet below the top of the discharge pipe and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. There was no water flowing into the pond
from runoff. . The pond embankment was well vegetated and stable at the time of
the inspection. There were no erosional problems noted on the pond embankment
at the time of the inspection. Goodspring Creek, which runs along the Gulch A
Pond, was flowing higher and muddy with the recent heavy rainfall.
- The Section 16 Pond (NPDES 009) contained water just below the weep hole
(approximately seven feet below the top of the discharge pipe) and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and stable and there were no signs of erosional problems. The
emergency spillway is a riprapped, open channel. The spillway appeared to be
stable.
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately two feet below the
top of the discharge pipe and was discharging from the weep hole. The discharge
was clear at the time of the inspection. There was no water flowing into the pond
from the ditch along the side of the Streeter Fill. The presettling basin of the pond
(which was recently cleaned) remains clean. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. There were no erosional
problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the inspection. The
emergency spillway is a riprapped open channel. The spillway is stable.
- The Section 28 Pond (NPDES 012A) contained a small amount of water and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The vegetation is still growing on the pond
embankment but it is still a bit sparse. There are several patches that appear to have
no vegetative cover at all. Colowyo may need to get out this fall and interseed the
embankment. The embankment has some very minor rilling but appears to be
stable. The emergency spillway is a large riprapped, open channel. The spillway is
stable.
- The West Taylor Pond (NPDES 011 A) was full and discharging from the primary
spillway pipe at the time of the inspection. The area where the water discharges into
Taylor Creek (after passing through a flume) is armored with riprap. This area
appears to be stable and there does not appear to be any erosion in the channel.
There was some debris around the trash rack, as designed, but it did not appear to
be interfering with the flow. There was some water flowing into the pond and some
sediment at the inlet. This pond will probably need to be cleaned in the next year.
There is very good vegetative growth on both the inslope and outslope of the
embankment. The embankment appeared to be stable and there were no erosional
problems noted at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open,
riprapped channel. The spillway appeared to be stable.
- Sump 2 was full of water was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The
sump was stable at the time of the inspection.
- Sump 3 was dry and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. There was
sediment in this sump up to one foot below the top. The sump was stable at the time
of the inspection.
