COR-040000 Stormwater Management Plan
Additional optional erosion and sediment control BMPs that may be implemented at the
site include the following:
Check dams
Because some sediment will always be present in stormwater, check dams can be used in
ditches to reduce the velocity of the water and allow some settling of larger particles.
Diversion ditches
On-site erosion can be greatly decreased when off-site flows, not disturbed by mining
activities, are diverted around the site through diversion ditches or channels. Swales and
ditches may be used on a permanent or temporary basis to convey stormwater in a way
that minimizes the potential for contamination by sediment. Swales and ditches are used
to reduce the velocity of runoff and enhance particle settling. Swales and ditches may
also be utilized to divert flow away from the ore pad, DRA, mine shaft or portal, and
equipment storage area.
Seeding and mulching
Temporary seeding, using a native species seed mix as determined in the Plan of
Operations, will be used on topsoil stockpiles and disturbed areas that will remain
inactive for long periods of time. Permanent seeding will be conducted in disturbed areas
to achieve permanent vegetation. Seeding may be done in combination with another
stabilization measure, such as crimp mulching, and/or installation of erosion control
blankets as appropriate for the site slope.
Surface roughening
Surface roughening along contours or working areas may be used as temporary erosion
control. Also by planting across the slope for permanent erosion control, the contour
ridges slow the downhill flow of water. Water is held between these contours, thus
reducing water erosion and increasing soil moisture.
Temporary sediment traps
Sediment traps or catch ponds may be created and/or modified so that stormwater can be
intercepted before leaving the site. This might be accomplished by temporarily blocking
diversion ditches or outlet structures and allowing the sediment to settle before gradually
releasing the stormwater downstream. Sediment traps provide for settling of suspended
particles.
2) ?Ylalerrals ffandlirtg a?idSpillPrevention
Proper materials handling and spill prevention procedures are discussed in Sections 4.d
and 4.e, below.
c) Preventative Maintenance (COR-040000, §I.B.4.c):
Denison will implement a preventive maintenance program that includes the following:
A
Van 4 Shaft SWMP 8 Denison Mines (USA) Corp.
