Set loads down on proper blocking-never directly on a sling. <br />• Maintain an angle between the sling and the horizontal greater than forty-five (45) <br />degrees to reduce stress on the slings. <br />• Know the safe lifting capacity of sling chains, wire rope and other lifting apparatus and <br />do not overload them. <br />• Inspect all rigging equipment before each use. <br />• Do not tie knots in sling chains, rope slings or wire cables to shorten them. <br />• Immediately discard defective lifting equipment. <br />Hand Tools: <br />Use only the proper tools and equipment for each job and snake sure these are <br />maintained in good working condition. <br />• Hand tools must be kept in good condition. <br />• Hammer and chisel heads, hammer handles, shovel and shovel handles, pipe wrench <br />jaws and cutting edges must be regularly inspected. <br />• Defective tools must be repaired or replaced. <br />Power Tools: <br />Power tools must be kept in good working condition. <br />Grinder wheels shall be properly rated for the speed of the grinder, with guards in <br />place without modification. <br />• Power and hand tools and extension cords shall have proper grounding. <br />All portable electrical tools shall be double insulated or used with ground fault circuit <br />interrupters (GFCI). <br />•
