Safety procedures are provided below for equipment that may be in use at AMSO work sites. i
Crane Safety:
• Only trained, qualified operators shall operate cranes. Crane operators should be
trained per OSHA guidelines found in 29 CFR 1910.179.
• When working with cranes, workers must face the crane and stand away from the lift:
in full view of the operator and/or signalman.
• Do not stand or walk under suspended loads. Also stay clear of the are of the accrane:
counterbalance.
Cranes should be load marked per OSHA 1910.179.
• Proof' of third party inspections of cranes will be made available to WWL for review.
• Prior to the beginning of work and at least monthly during the performance of work,
inspections will be made of critical items such as brakes, hooks, linkage, and wire
rope.
• Only the operator will be allowed on the crane while it is in operation.
• A qualified signalman will be used at all times.
Static Electricity:
• All personnel shall ground their body before opening a gauge hatch on a tank (e.g.,
taking hold of a grounded metal surface such as a steel walkway, etc.). This should
prevent a spark when the hatch is opened, minimizing the hazards of fire or explosion.
• Use only metal containers, which are grounded by metal to metal contact (e.g.., direct:
metal contact to nozzle or pipe with metal container) or grounding straps while taking
hydrocarbon samples from pressurized vessels or lines.
• When filling the container with hydrocarbon liquid, the liquid must be discharged
slowly to maintain low velocity.
• These procedures should minimize the possibility of a spark being created betwee.rt the
pipe nozzle, liquid, and bucket.
• Trucks shall be properly bonded to the tank(s) during loading and unloading.
Sling Safety:
• All lift lines, rigging and slings shall be inspected, maintained in good working;
condition, and be properly rated for the intended load.

• Avoid sharp bends in slings, and protect slings from sharp edges and abrasions. •
