• • Establishing control safety zones and marking areas of known or suspected hazards or <br />high levels of contamination. <br />• Working in a manner to minimize dust generation. <br />• Restricting access to active work areas and unstable features and structures. <br />• Securing workers on steep hill slopes and other precarious areas (e.g., steep waste-rock <br />dumps) with properly anchored belays and ropes. <br />• Establishing and confirming adequate mine ventilation and good air quality when <br />performing work in underground workings. <br />5.2 Administrative Controls and Work Practices <br />Administrative controls and work practices will be implemented by every individual when <br />performing work at AMSO work sites. The controls and practices include the following: <br />AMSO will provide a sufficient amount of adequate, approved safety equipment as is <br />required and necessary for the performance of the work. <br />+ Equipment will be maintained in a professional manner as dictated by good <br />governmental and/or industry standards. <br />Maintenance records will be kept up-to-date for equipment used at the work site. <br />Mandatory attendance at daily tailgate safety meetings before entering the work area. <br />+ Mandatory attendance at site-specific training. <br />+ Surveying for radiological contamination on clothing and equipment using an alpha- <br />scintillation detector. <br />Using the "buddy system" for constant visual contact of your buddy and using <br />appropriate hand signals or ensuring radio contact with other onsite worker(s). <br />Eating, drinking, chewing gum or tobacco, smoking, and applying lotions and lip cream <br />only in designated areas. <br />+ Washing hands and face after leaving the work area and before eating, drinking, chewing <br />gum or tobacco, smoking, and applying lotions and lip cream. <br />• Complying with established safety procedures and protocols. <br />• Stopping work and notifying the Site Supervisor or SSHP when discolored soils, odors, <br />or other non-routine conditions are encountered. <br />+ Report to work rested, physically and mentally fit to perform the job assignments.
